Let me take a moment to tell you about a unique vehicle I discovered while “giving a point by” in my Ferrari Challenge car. It’s called a Radical SR3. An open cockpit sports racer with a sleek aerodynamic body reminiscent of a prototype lemans race car, capable of seating two adults in comfort and safety. The SR3 Supersport has impeccable track manners, super quick steering response, high levels of aerodynamic and mechanical grip, perfect car balance, and more importantly, is immense fun to drive.

The FIA / MSA homologated tube frame chassis and safety cage cradles a race tuned Powertec Suzuki Hyabusa motorcycle engine. Power is delivered thru a 6 speed sequential shifter or paddle gear shift system mated to a Quaiffe gear drive differential. At 1,080 lbs with 252bhp (1500cc), the power to weight ratio rivals a Ferrari 333SP!!! Visually its similarity to the 333SP is uncanny.

Radicals were born to race. Driving an open cockpit race car is an experience like no other. Radicals have become a worldwide phenomena. There are currently eight championship series worldwide for Radicals that feature up to 50 Radicals on the grid. Here in Florida, we have our own Radical Challenge series. It features 12 race weekends a year with both enduro & sprint races “ALMS style” with points awarded to find the best Radical driver in the east coast.

Simply put, the Radicals cornering grip is intense. From the Nik Link suspension to the adjustable bespoke dampers and 4 pot Radical brakes, this car is the complete package for the trackday enthusiast or someone who desires competition in club racing. The best part is, a nicely equipped 1300cc 205 bhp Radical SR3 starts at $85,000. Even more refreshing is maintenance and running costs are just a fraction of driving a Ferrari or Porsche on track. Incredible value when considering this car delivers lap times exceeding both a 430 challenge & 911 cup car and when driven competently delivers formula 3 circuit times. Radicals model range has evolved over the past 10 years and now includes the new Honda powered SR5 with 245bhp and the formidable V8 powered SR8 LM producing 460bhp and capable of Lemans performance. Of course, the iconic PR6 has received a freshening and still sets the standard for value & performance.
